Music & Worship

Choir

The primary voice of worship at Christ Church is that of the gathered people, the assembly. Our choir assists in a number of ways:

  • Supporting the assembly, learning the music first to help others find their voice.

  • Leading a sort of dialogue with the assembly in the worship service, as in a chanted psalm.

  • Singing on behalf of the assembly, raising voices in song to God.

We invite you to join us — for our special Music Series, for the Advent or Easter season, or for the whole year. We are a fun and talented group, and we love to welcome new singers.

Instrumental Music

As does the choir, solo and ensemble vocalists and instrumentalists support the assembly in worship. Even something as simple as the reverberating tones of our Tibetan singing bowls invite us to calm reflection. Strings, woodwinds, brass, handbells, drums — there is a place for you.

Christ Church Organ

The Christ Church organ is a work of art that leads congregational singing and performs organ literature in collaboration with choirs and instruments. It contains 29 ranks distributed over 24 stops, totaling 1,730 pipes. The specification is well balanced and reflects the congregation’s Germanic heritage. The design of the console echoes design elements from the interior of the sanctuary.

The organ was designed and built in 2017 by Dobson Pipe Organ Builders, Lake City, Iowa. Dobson Pipe Organ Builders is increasingly chosen for high-profile projects such as Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center, Merton College in Oxford, England, and influential St. Thomas Church in New York City. This new organ, their Opus 95, also displays Dobson’s expertise in using the best from the pipe organ tradition while being tailored to the needs of this particular building and community.
