Celebrating Sound and Space: A Finnish Hymn Festival

Tulkaa laulamaan! Come and sing! In celebration of our congregation’s Finnish connections, Christ Church Lutheran presents a hymn festival marking the 75th anniversary of our sanctuary designed by renowned Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen as well as the publication of two new collections of Finnish hymns: The Finnish Heritage Hymnal and Lost Songs of the Suomi Synod. Twin Cities musician Jonathan Rundman and the SF 100 Chorus (Suomi Finland) join Cantor Mark Sedio for a program of diverse music from this incredible tradition. Reception to follow. This event is free and open to the public.

The SF 100 Chorus was founded in 2016 for Finland’s 100th Anniversary of independence celebrations in 2017. The choir has performed at Orchestra Hall as part of FinnFest 2017 and for Osmo Vänskä’s farewell concerts in 2022. The choir is led by director Eeva Savolainen and collaborative pianist Sari Rönnholm and has collaborated with Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, nordic choirs, and Finnish musical organizations over the years. In 2022 the choir recorded several hymns in the new Finnish Heritage Hymnal.
